Who: Alexandra (Lexi) Fink

Hometown: Houston

School: University of Texas at Austin

Major: Sociology and McCombs Business Foundations

Internship: Laura U Interior Design– Social Media and Marketing Intern

Q: What was the environment like there?

A: It was a wonderful, energetic environment made up of about 15 employees. Everyone was in constant contact, and very close. On Fridays we had a meeting where we celebrated everyone’s weekly achievements

Q: What is something you learned?

A: I learned a lot of directly work related things such as Google +, Google Analytics, and WordPress, but I learned a lot more about the environment that I want to look for after I graduate.

Q: Is there anything you wish you had known before taking the job?

A: I wish I would have known more about programs like Photoshop. Often for banners on Shopify or for blogs, we would use Photoshop. I was able to so some of the basics, but my supervisor was very skilled at the program and it always made me wish I could do more.

Q: Do you have any advice for college students who are looking for internships/jobs?

  • Do your research! Research, research, research. Make sure you know the ins and outs of your company, their industry, and the way they operate.
  • After you have done that go in to the interviews and be yourself. I believe part of why I enjoyed my internship so much is because it was exactly what I wanted to be doing, working in interior design, and it was with people I looked forward to seeing everyday.
  • The more I poured myself into what I was doing and the more work I asked to do, the more I learned and the more I got out of my summer at Laura U.
