I started Career Onward after launching two global internship programs and seeing first-hand the challenge college students face assessing and packaging their gifts, skills, and passions in a way that translates effectively to employers and makes them stand out from the crowd.

We identify job roles and companies that “fit” after first assessing each student’s unique set of goals and priorities. These things can change from freshman to senior year – from a volunteer internship to a professional internship or full-time job as they should as they explore, discern, and gain knowledge on the types of activities and work environments they enjoy.

Each search is personalized, as no two students are alike, even if they attend the same school and have identical majors and GPA’s. There are many choices when creating a career plan so it’s important students explore many opportunities and paths and talk with professionals in the field to learn more.

Not only do we get to know each student well, but we also put the same time and attention into carefully reviewing, vetting, and recommending target companies to insure they have a good track record and will provide the right environment for each student to thrive.

I travel and network extensively with hiring managers, corporate recruiters, and college career center staffs across the U.S. as hiring levels, recruiting methods, and preferred skills for roles change frequently.

I am a featured speaker and panel participant for national conferences on the topics of College Career Advising and Millennial Hiring and present career workshops on university campuses across Texas throughout each school year.

Since 2014, we have successfully advised hundreds of students including siblings in the U.S. from 33 universities in 43 different majors with gpa’s ranging from 2.11-4.0. We have placed students nationally in a wide variety of industries and companies that include but are not limited to highly competitive Goldman Sachs, Oliver Wyman, and Amazon to small start-ups, advertising agencies, and consumer brands.

I earned my National Career Development Facilitator certification and have a B.S. in Industrial Management from Purdue University. I am a proud member of the National Career Development Association (NCDA) and the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) and am thrilled to have been selected to blog for NACE.

Personally, I have two sons and have been married for 31 years. I joke often that my nest is not empty, but overflowing with college students – just the way I like it! On weekends, I enjoy walks on Lady Bird Lake, vanilla lattes, and red wine.
